DSGMC to celebrate 'Fateh Diwas' for two days from March 21

"Fateh Diwas" or the 232nd anniversary of the establishment of Khalsa Panth Rule will be observed by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) at the end of this week.

The event marks the time when Sikh warrior Sardar Baghel Singh hoisted the Kesri Nishan Sahib of the Khalsa Panth at the Red Fort on March 11,1783 after defeating then Mughal Emperor Shah Alam and crowning Jassa Singh Ahluwalia as the new emperor in the Diwan-e-Aam, said Manjit Singh G K, president of the DSGMC.

Singh said that DSGMC will celebrate Fateh Diwas on March 21 and 22 to highlight a golden historic moment of the Sikh community.

 

He further revealed that it would be second time that the city of Delhi and the DSGMC is organizing a Fateh Diwas celebration.

He said that he expected around one lakh people from various religions to take part, and added that efforts are on to make it an annual event.

Singh revealed that the five head priests will lead the Jarnaili March procession from the ancient Hanuman Mandir to the Red Fort on March 22.

The colourful procession will have Nihang Singh Jathebandis, police and military bands, religous and Gatka Groups.

He said he expected sikh organizations from across the globe to send their representatives for the event, and added that a live telecast has also been planned.

A light and sound show, besides plays will also be organized as part of the event.

He said invitations have already been dispatched to religious and social organisations.

He said the DSGMC will approach the government with an appeal to organize official functions to celebrate the day at govt level so that the younger generation about the glorious past of Sikh history.
