Lancashire coach Peter Moores has reportedly emerged as a leading contender to become the new head coach of the England cricket team.

Moores, along with Nottinghamshire's Mick Newell, current England limited-overs coach Ashley Giles and Trevor Bayliss are on a four-man shortlist in the race to succeed Andy Flower.

According to Sport24, Moores, who previously served as England coach from May 2007 until January 2009, is back in the frame and he said that he is a passionate Englishman and is interested in the thought of coaching his country, adding that he is aware that he is in a job that he has loved and still loves.

Giles had widely been considered the favourite to take charge of England in the wake of Flower's departure but his link with England's disastrous Twenty20 campaign in Bangladesh has seen Moores' name increasingly move to the fore, the report added.
