Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that the suicide of farmer Gajendra Singh has affected him deeply, further saying that following the incident, he was unable to sleep at night.

"This was not an ordinary function because a chief minister was present there. I am not able to digest the fact that such an incident took place in from of me. I was not able to sleep that night. Let the investigation state how it occurred, who witnessed it," Kejriwal said, in an exclusive interview with ANI.

Kejriwal also appealed to all stakeholders, including the media and politicians, to work for the plight of the farmers in order to prevent them from committing suicide.

"If the media wants to run its debates on whether Arvind Kejriwal should have appealed from the stage, then I want no part of it. If you feel that it creates TRPs, then please go ahead. But this is not going to solve the issues of the farmers. The only way the farmers' problems can be solved is if the debate veers to their issues," he said.

"Our objective is to end the spate of farmer suicides. Let us debate on that. Punish the guilty and I assure that the AAP will cooperate fully with the relevant authorities but I want the debate to come back to the farmers' issues. The media is asking me a lot of questions but is not asking how the suicides can be ended... All parties have to come together to find a solution to this issue. Do we want to play party politics. Why can't the entire country get together to find a solution to this problem?" he added.

Gajendra had committed suicide on Wednesday by hanging himself from a tree during an Aam Aadmi Party rally against the land Acquisition Bill in the national capital.

As per reports, a suicide note was found that revealed the farmer, who had three children, was banished from his house after his crop was damaged. He took the extreme step because he had no means of support his family.
