George Bernard Shaw's 'Pygmalion' turns 100

The George Bernard Shaw-penned play, which featured the famous fictional character of Eliza Doolittle, 'Pygmalion' is almost 100 years old now.

Even though the play was written by Shaw between March and June 1912, it opened to the public in London on 11 April 1914, the Independent reported.

Through Pygmalion, which was later turned into romantic musical My Fair Lady six years after the Irish author's death in 1956, Shaw wanted to show the importance of equality for women.

Shaw won an Oscar for the screenplay of Pygmalion in 1939.
