'Godzilla' marks biggest opening of 2014 with $103M earnings at weekend box office

'Godzilla' has marked the biggest opening of 2014 so far, by grossing 103 million dollars worldwide at the weekend box office.

According to the Deadline.com, the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures film took the top spot in most of the countries, except for Austria, Norway, Venezuela, with its 3-D format accounting for 51 percent of its box office gross.

The film, which is helmed by a young British director Gareth Edwards, swept a total of 14.1 million dollars domestically with 12 of the top 15 locations being IMAX 3-D big-screens.
