England national football team manager Roy Hodgson and FA chairman David Bernstein have paid tributes to the football star David Beckham and urged him to stay at the game, saying that he is a charismatic and talented player the football world cannot afford to lose.

The tributes follow Beckham's retirement announcement, the Mirror reports.

Hodgson looks at Beckham as all-time-great talent and said that though he wishes well for Beckham, he personally hopes that the iconic figure is involved in football only.

Hodgson said that Beckham is a man of many talents and he would want to keep Beckham in football as he believes that he can benefit from Beckham's experience, charisma and from the magnificent past he has had as a football player.

Calling for the former England captain to become the country's 'lead football figure', Bernstein compared Beckham's retirement to Manchester United's manager Ferguson's quit, regretting the loss to the game.

The chairman has insisted on Beckham playing the role of an ambassador for the FA and English football as he believes that Beckham has been a wonderful performer, particularly at United.

However, Beckham, who has won 21 major medals and made 115 appearances as an ambassador in the bids for the 2016 World Cup and 2012 London Olympics, said that he wants to quit when he is still in a good condition and does not want to fall through injury.
