The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has abducted several people, mostly Christian, from Homs province in Syria in pro-regime forces.

According to the BBC, monitoring groups said that these people were captured when the militants swept through al-Qaryatain in Homs province.

Many of the Christians had fled to al-Qaryatain to escape fighting in Aleppo province to the north.

According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), at least 230 people were seized by ISIS fighters in al-Qaryatain.
