Ajatshatru Singh, son of senior Congress leader Dr. Karan Singh on Sunday officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of party chief Amit Shah and other senior BJP leaders. This move comes ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
Announcing this decision, Minister of State (MoS) for Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh said, "Ajatshatru Singh ji has officially accepted membership of the BJP."
Ajatshatru is the grandson of the late Maharaja Hari Singh the last ruler of Jammu and Kashmir. His wife Ritu and son too have joined the BJP.
Earlier this week, speculative reports stated that Ajatshatru, who is currently a sitting MLC from Nagrota seat representing the National Conference (NC), join the BJP.
This event comes ahead of the assembly elections scheduled in Jammu and Kashmir which will be held in five phases - on November 25, December 2, December 9, December 14 and December 20. The counting of votes will be held on December 23.
