The Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and other Developing Countries (NAM S and T Centre) has invited experts from Afghanistan to provide them vital training and education in the national capital.

According to reports, the experts will be imparted with training in the technology required in developing various sectors including by farming, power, water and sanitation, food processing and infrastructure development.

"Afghanistan is quite well-known by itself but certainly they need new and modern technologies. Mini and micro hydels...food processing technologies: they are very much interested in this area," said NAM S-T Centre director general Arun Kulshestra.

Afghan scientists are taking initiatives to improve the agricultural produce through research and fellowship programmes which are conducted in India also.

"Afghanistan terrain there is another phase where nothing grows. We have organized the programmes in which Afghanistan has participated to make the agriculture produce in the dry land where there is very little availability of water in that area to produce. They are actively participating in our programmes," said Kulshestra.

Kulshestra further said that he believes that India will help to develop research laboratories in Afghanistan to help the war-torn country.

"As India's support continues, we will see the revival of Afghan science because there is intellect in Afghanistan; it is the question of providing opportunity they are looking forward for the opportunity to work and that is being provided by the Government of India," he said.

The NAM S-T Centre was established as an inter-governmental organization. Forty seven developing countries have so far joined as its member.
