NGT imposes Rs 100 crore fine on Qatar-based shipping company

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs. 100 crore on a Qatar-based shipping company, Delta Shipping Marine Service, for 2011 Mumbai oil spill.

A cargo vessel had sunk 20 nautical miles off the South Mumbai coast on August 4, 2011.

The tribunal also imposed a fine of Rs 5 crore on Adani Enterprises Ltd for environmental damage.

The ship was carrying coal to be delivered for one of Adani's thermal plant in Gujarat.

The Qatar-based shipping company is owned by Delta Group International.
