The US President Barack Obama reportedly discussed NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden's issue with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday.

According to Politico, the two presidents discussed Snowden, who's been holed up at the Moscow airport for nearly three weeks.

The report said that it was Obama and Putin's first direct conversation since Snowden left Hong Kong for Russia in order to seek asylum in Latin America.

The White House said that the leaders noted the importance of US-Russian bilateral relations and discussed a range of security and bilateral issues.

Snowden has reportedly shown interest in seeking 'temporary asylum' in Russia in order to move further through a 'safe passage' to Latin America.
