Women in Karak have been banned from shopping alone in the Karak region of Pakistan as clerics argue that such women propagate vulgarity.
According to The Nation, clerics who imposed the ban, expressed concern that a large number of women roaming in the city without being accompanied by any male member of their family in the holy month of Ramadan and were spreading vulgarity.
The clerics have claimed that women are spoiling the fasting of Muslims and added that such a practice of shopping alone was also against the Pashtun culture.
The report said that the clerics asked the shopkeepers not to sell to women who are shopping alone and also demanded the district police officer to depute women police personnel in bazaars to take action against such women.
The clerics later met with Karak Deputy Commissioner Aqal Bad Shah and demanded the ban on women from going to bazaars alone.
However, the deputy commissioner told them that the district administration could not impose this ban but would cooperate with them in their genuine demands, the report added.
