Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the fourth day of his five-day state visit to Japan by dropping in at Tokyo's Sacred Heart University and meeting Natsuo Yamaguchi, the leader of the New Komeito, which is a junior coalition ally of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

The two leaders reportedly exchanged views on issues of bilateral, regional and global importance to the two countries.

On Monday, in a joint statement issued after delegation-level talks, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Abe pledged to take steps to boost bilateral cooperation in sectors such as railways, civil aviation, energy, maritime affairs, science and technology and women's empowerment.

Prime Minister Modi, who will be concluding his visit to Japan tomorrow, is scheduled to meet Emperor Akihito.

He will also inaugurate the Vivekananda Cultural Centre at the Indian embassy here.
