Rooney named new Manchester United captain

English Premier League (EPL) club Manchester United has named Wayne Rooney as their new captain.
Rooney, 28, replaces Nemanja Vidic, who has left the club for Inter Milan, while Darren Fletcher has been named as vice-captain, reports the BBC.
Rooney described being named as skipper as a huge honour and a role that he would like to perform with great pride.
He said that he was grateful to the manager for the faith shown in him.
Rooney was confirmed as captain after the 2-1 friendly win over Valencia on Tuesday night. He has been with the club since August 2004.
