Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes' relationship on the rocks?

Eva Mendes' conspicuous absence from the Cannes Film Festival where her boyfriend Ryan Gosling is promoting his directorial debut, 'Lost River,' has set the rumour mills churning on the status of the couple's relationships.

The 33-year-old Gosling was seen on the red carpet instead with actress Christina Hendricks, who also appears in the movie, which is set in an urban wasteland.

Mendes, 40, and Gosling haven't been clicked together since last November, People magazine reported.

In February this year Mendes had playfully shot down the breakup rumors, telling Ellen DeGeneres that her Valentine's Day plans involved "watching The Notebook or something.
