Saudi Arabia's grand mufti Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Al Shaikh has branded suicide bombers as "criminals" who will go to "hell."

Al Shaikh said suicide bombers have been robbed of their minds and used as tools to destroy themselves and societies, the Gulf News reports.

His remarks came after a preliminary inquiry into a December 5 suicide car bombing and assault on a Yemen defence ministry complex found that most assailants were Saudis.

According to the report, Al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), a merger of the jihadist network's Saudi and Yemeni branches, has claimed responsibility for the attack which killed nearly 56 people.

These jihadists groups view the religious establishment of the kingdom as an extension of the state and largely disregard its rulings.
