Singapore President Tan arrives in India

Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Sunday arrived in India for his four-day official visit to the nation.

During his visit, President Tan is scheduled to meet President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

President Tan, who will be accompanied by his wife Mary Tan, will also inaugurate the Peranakan Exhibition at the National Museum in the national capital.

The close relationship shared by India and Singapore is based on convergence of economic and political interests. Singapore is one of India's major trade and investment partners, with bilateral trade for the financial year 2013-14 standing at USD 19.27 billion.

 

This year marks 50 years of the establishment of India-Singapore diplomatic relations.
