Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas has said that it is necessary for them to keep a tight hold on star winger Gareth Bale so that the club can reach the top four 'Holy Land' in the Premier League next season.

Although the Welshman hit the only goal against Sunderland, but Tottenham fans will have to wait for the Europa League after Arsenal pipped them to a top-four spot, The Sun reports.

Stating that they have to keep their ambitions high and hold on to our best players, Villas-Boas said that Bale's last-minute goal, which equaled English legend Teddy Sheringham's club record of 21 goals in a Premier League season, was another moment of individual brilliance, adding that it is very difficult to lure away a player of this dimension.

However, the former Chelsea boss insisted that the Spurs must strengthen their squad as he said that their rivals will continue to sniff out ways to lure such players away from the club, adding that his club will continue to scout properly and look for good grabs in the summer to make a stronger squad.

The Portuguese further said that they would have to continue to raise the bar.
