West Bengal Police baton-charge teachers demanding pay hike

The West Bengal Police baton-charged a group of teachers, who were demanding a pay hike, in Asansol city on Friday.

Criticizing the school management, one of the protesting lady teachers said the police baton-charged us as if we were thieves.

"They have hurt the prestige of the teachers. We will also stage a hunger strike," she said.

Demanding that the retirement policy should be followed, she should the teachers who have completed 60 years of age or given 40 years of service should be adequately compensated.

A few teachers sustained injuries in the police baton-charge. According to reports, five teachers have been detained by the police.

 

According to reports, the teachers were employed in the various schools run by the Eastern Coalfields Limited. According to the teachers, a prior notice was sent to the ECL for a demonstration for a hike in salary and other facilities.
