Energy shares gain
Energy stocks were trading in the positive zone, with the S&P BSE Energy index rising 137.17 points or 2.64% at 5329.74 at 09:48 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Energy index, Aban Offshore Ltd (up 4.87%), Reliance Industries Ltd (up 3.51%),Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (up 3.05%),Mangalore Refinery And Petrochemicals Ltd (up 1.15%),Oil India Ltd (up 1.02%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Confidence Petroleum India Ltd (up 0.93%), Coal India Ltd (up 0.88%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (up 0.78%), Aegis Logistics Ltd (up 0.77%), and Goa Carbon Ltd (up 0.72%).
On the other hand, Castrol India Ltd (down 0.65%), Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (down 0.6%), and Gujarat Gas Ltd (down 0.59%) moved lower.
At 09:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 178.37 or 0.44% at 40648.07.
The Nifty 50 index was up 37.85 points or 0.32% at 11977.95.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 17.62 points or 0.13% at 13422.13.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 7.14 points or 0.15% at 4695.79.
On BSE,788 shares were trading in green, 647 were trading in red and 64 were unchanged.
