Energy stocks edge lower
Energy stocks were trading in red, with the S&P BSE Energy index decreasing 93.06 points or 1.76% at 5193.28 at 13:48 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Energy index, Oil India Ltd (down 4.31%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (down 3.75%),Reliance Industries Ltd (down 2.21%),Panama Petrochem Ltd (down 1.59%),Aegis Logistics Ltd (down 1.36%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were Coal India Ltd (down 0.91%), Adani Gas Ltd (down 0.83%), Aban Offshore Ltd (down 0.74%), Castrol India Ltd (down 0.51%), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (down 0.5%).
On the other hand, Alphageo (India) Ltd (up 7.2%), Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (up 5.15%), and Goa Carbon Ltd (up 2.77%) turned up.
At 13:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 308.16 or 0.73% at 41637.21.
The Nifty 50 index was down 88.25 points or 0.71% at 12264.1.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 29.67 points or 0.2% at 14679.03.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 16.24 points or 0.32% at 5025.65.
On BSE,910 shares were trading in green, 1468 were trading in red and 173 were unchanged.
