Rabi sowing down 4.6%, sharp fall in acreage under coarse cereals

According to the latest weekly sowing data, rabi sowing in the country has covered a total area of 512.53 lakh hectares (lh) as on December 21, about 4.6% lower than 537.12 lh covered in the same period in 2017-19. The acreage under coarse cereals continued to be weak, coming in at 40.26 lh, down around 17.40%. Maize crop covered 11.27 lh, down 10.34%. Pulses acreage dropped around 5% to 136.25 lh. Chana acreage stood at 89.36 lh, down 9.20%.Oilseeds area was at 72.53 lh, down 0.56%. Mustard acreage was up by 2.63% though, coming in at 64.71 lh. Wheat acreage is down 1.53% at 253.52 lh.
