Shares jump in opening trade

Key benchmark indices were trading higher in early trade. At 9:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 201.37 points or 0.52% at 39,107.21. The index was up 57.65 points or 0.49% at 11,748.

Among secondary barometers,the BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.19%. The BSE Small-Cap index was up 0.31%. Both these indices underperformed the Sensex.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On BSE, 650 shares rose and 256 shares fell. A total of 41 shares were unchanged.
