20 troopers killed in Chhattisgarh Maoist attack

At least 20 CRPF troopers were killed Tuesday in a deadly Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh, authorities said.

The attack on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers took place in the thickly forested Tongapal area in Sukma district, about 500 km south of Raipur in Bastar region.

Officials at police headquarter here said that reinforcements have been rushed to the site and casualty figure could rise.

Helicopters have been rushed to evacuate the injured troopers who are reported to be in dozens.

The area where the attack took place is a largely cut off and Maoists are ruling the roost there since late 1980s.
