Tripoli, Oct 2 (IANS/AKI) Libya has reopened Tripoli's Mitiga airport - the only functioning airport in the capital - after militants fired rockets towards it late on Monday, forcing it to close briefly, the Libyan Observer daily tweeted on Tuesday.

"Libya's Airports Authority announces the resumption of flights at Mitiga airport hours after suspension due to safety concerns after a rocket fell on the airport near Libya Wings office Monday night," read the tweet.

"No reports of casualties or damage," the tweet added.

Monday's closure came days after flights had resumed following an earlier shutdown.

Mitiga, a former airbase used for commercial flights, has closed and opened several times since deadly violence between armed groups escalated on Tripoli's outskirts in late August.

Tripoli main international airport was destroyed in 2014 by militia fighting.
