India and Netherlands Thursday inked an agreement to strengthen bilateral ties in the field of health and medicine.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and the Netherlands Health, Welfare and Sports Minister Edith I. Schippers here.

Development and strengthening of cooperation between the two countries will result in mutually beneficial exchanges in the areas of communicable diseases, anti-microbial resistance, public health policy and medical equipment and pharmaceutical products, Azad said.

Under the agreement, both countries can also encourage greater research collaboration between universities, foundations, industry and the health services of both countries, he noted.
