A man threw acid on a woman and her friend after his marriage proposal was rejected, police said Sunday.
The incident happened in Bagumpur area of west Delhi Sunday evening.
"Parwati, 18 and Gayatri, 16, were going to the market when a neighbour, Manoj, 23, attacked them with a bottle of acid. Some people tried to stop Manoj but he managed to escape from the spot," said a police officer.
Parwati received around 50 percent burn injuries while Gayatri suffered 20 percent burns.
They were admitted to the Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital.
The officer said Manoj who is married had proposed to Parwati but was spurned. Police have launched a hunt to nab him.
