Kerala cops humiliated rape victim: Ranjana Kumari

The Kerala Police has committed an 'unpardonable' act by posing humiliating questions to a CPI(M) member, who was allegedly gangraped by her husbands friends, women's rights activist Ranjana Kumari said on Thursday.

"She was asked questions like -- 'Who gave you more pleasure' -- and was forced to withdraw her complaint as she couldn't put up with the uncomfortable interrogation. What Kerala Police have done is unpardonable," Ranjana Kumari told IANS.

"This rape happened a year-and-a-half back. The men who raped her also threatened her, so she did not report. That's how CPI(M) works."

The woman has identified CPI(M)'s Vadakancheri Nagarasabha's Councilor P.N. Jayanthan as one of the four rapists.

"The government has not arrested the Councilor to date, because he belongs to their party. Then what is the difference between any other state and CPI(M)-governed Kerala?" Ranjana Kumari said.

She asked: "Why is the Kerala government not acting and who has given the right to police to ask those questions? Moreover, why haven't they been suspended so far?"
