The Lok Sabha was briefly adjourned on Monday over the Muzaffarpur shelter home rapes with the Congress and RJD alleging that evidence has been tampered with, and seeking a statement from Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Raising the issue, Congress member Ranjeet Ranjan alleged that some of the accused had fled to Nepal.

She said the state government did not show the requisite seriousness on the issue.

Rashtriya Janata Dal member Jay Prakash Narayan Yadav also raised the issue and alleged that evidences were being tampered.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said the matter was being looked into by the Central Bureau of Investigation. However, the Congress and other members continued shouting slogans.

Mahajan told them to let the business of the House continue but the members did not relent leading her to adjourn the House for 15 minutes.

As many as 34 minor girls were sexually assaulted in the Balika Grih, a short-stay girls' shelter home run by an NGO in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district.

The shelter home has been sealed after the horror came to light. The Bihar Social Welfare Department filed an FIR based on a social audit of the shelter home conducted by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
