Eminent Muslim leader Abdul Raheem Quraishi died here on Thursday following a prolonged illness, his family said. He was 82.

Quraishi was president of the Majlis-e-Tameer-e-Millat, a socio-religious organisation working for the social, educational and cultural uplift of Muslims. He had headed the group for over two decades.

Tameer-e-Millat was founded by Syed Khaeelullah Hussaini in the 1950s.

Quraishi was assistant general secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and served as its spokesman.

Muslim leaders condoled the death of Quraishi.

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi termed it a huge loss for the community.

"This is also a personal loss to me as he advised and guided me, whenever necessary," Owaisi said.
