Akshaya Patra, a project of ISKCON Vrindavan, Tuesday began its operations here to provide quality mid-day meals to children in government schools.

The facility set up at Lopamudra School near the Taj Mahal by Pareek Foundation will cater to more than 38,000 schoolchildren in Agra area, said District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar while inaugurating it.

By implementing the mid-day meal scheme in government and government-aided schools, Akshaya Patra aims to fight not only hunger but also help to bring children to school and thereby provide food for education.

Started in 2000, Akshaya Patra is the world's largest, not-for-profit mid-day meal programme serving food to over 1.4 million children in 10,661 schools across 10 states.
