The Odisha Police crime branch Wednesday arrested a man for opening a fake Facebook account in the name of a woman and for harassing and pressurising her to marry him.
Rajaram Biswal, 28, was arrested from his house in Bhubaneswar on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman, a crime branch official said.
During investigation, it was found that the man opened a fake Facebook account in the name of the woman, he said.
It came to light that the accused was friends with the woman and wanted to marry her. But she was reluctant.
The accused later tried to pressurise the woman to marry him and harassed her and also threatened her family with dire consequences, he said.
As prima facie evidence was brought out against the accused, he was arrested and was produced before a local court. Investigation is on, police said.
