Pakistan Army violates ceasefire in Jammu

Army and intelligence agencies maintain firing by Pakistan is intended to facilitate infiltration of armed guerrillas into the Indian side of the border

Pakistan Army Wednesday opened fire at Indian positions on the international border in Jammu district, an official said.

"Pakistan Rangers violated ceasefire in Arnia area in R S Pura late yesterday (Tuesday)night and today (Wednesday) morning," a police officer told IANS here.

The officer said the Pakistani army targeted three Border Security Force (BSF) posts - Pital Post, Kaku-de-Kothae and Tent Post.

"Pakistan firing started at 11.55 p.m. yesterday (Tuesday) night and stopped at 1 a.m. today (Wednesday)," the officer said.

The Pakistani army again resorted to firing at 3 am. local time Wednesday. The firing is still on.

The officer said the BSF has effectively retaliated the firing.
