President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday greeted the nation on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Mohammed, which is being observed on December 12 this year.
The Prophet's birthday falls on the 12th day of the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
"On the auspicious occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of the Holy Prophet, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all my fellow countrymen, in India and abroad," the President said in a message.
"May the message of the Holy Prophet inspire us to work towards universal brotherhood, compassion, tolerance and the well-being of all. Let's recall the life and ideals of Hazrat Mohammed Saheb and re-dedicate ourselves to the service of humanity," Mukherjee said.
