President Pranab Mukherjee Friday wished former Supreme Court Justice (retd) V.R. Krishna Iyer on his 100th birthday.
In his message sent to Krishna Iyer, the president said: "Permit me to extend my heartiest congratulations to you on your 100th birthday".
"On this special occasion, I would like to acknowledge with gratitude the stellar contributions made by you to our nation and people as a distinguished jurist as well as public activist," he said.
"You have been instrumental in making justice more accessible to the poor and are widely admired for speaking out forcefully in support of the causes you deeply believe in. I am confident you will continue to inspire the youth of our country to relentlessly pursue truth and justice," the message added.
A former Supreme Court judge, Krishna Iyer was a minister in the first communist government in Kerala and the CPI-M's candidate for the office of president of India in 1987. He is also a civil rights activist.
