The central government has initiated search for a new Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission as one of the Commissioners, Rajiv, is scheduled to retire next month, an official statement said on Wednesday.

Rajiv, one of the two Vigilance Commissioners besides the Chief Vigilance Commissioner, is scheduled to demit office on February 27 after completing his four-year tenure at the Commission, it said.

"Accordingly, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has initiated the process of selection by issuing advertisements in leading newspapers (two English and one Hindi) seeking applications from eligible candidates for filling up the post of Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission," the statement said.

"A vacancy circular dated January 19 has also been uploaded on the website of DoPT. The last date of receipt of applications in DoPT is February 19," it said.

The Central Vigilance Commission has a say in crucial appointments under the Union government including that of the Enforcement Director. It has all the powers of a civil court while conducting an inquiry into matters of corruption among government servants.
