US condoles Indian submarine disaster

US ambassador Nancy J. Powell Thursday expressed "sincere condolences" over the sinking of the Indian submarine INS Sindhurakshak.

Powell offered the condolences on behalf of the US to the Indian people and to the "families and friends of those lost aboard INS Sindhurakshak", an American embassy statement said.

The frontline submarine sank early Wednesday at the Mumbai dock following explosions and fire.
