High-level delay

BS Reporter New Delhi

Delhi VIPs are unlikely to get their unique identification numbers any time soon, thanks to the disagreements between the home ministry and Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) led by Nandan Nilekeni. Most ministers and secretaries have been enrolled with the National Population Register (VIPs range from Rahul Gandhi to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee). But the UIDAI has refused to upload their data. In reply to a letter, UIDAI officials told Home Secretary R P Singh that the data would be taken only after it is fully verified. That would amount to a month’s delay.
