State govt had collected 33,000 acres of land from local farmers for constructing the city

BS Reporter Hyderabad
The state government today approved 'Amaravathi' as the name of the new capital city, which has been proposed between Vijayawada and Guntur cities.

Incidentally, the place called Amaravathi, which is known for its ancient Buddhist settlements, also falls under the area earmarked for the construction of the capital city. The state Cabinet approved a resolution giving the new capital city the name of Amaravathi.

Earlier, the government declared that it had collected around 33,000 acres of land from the local farmers under the land pooling scheme in this region for constructing the capital city. About 50 per cent of the land bank would be set aside for common infrastructure. Half of the remaining land would be given back to farmers in the form of the developed plots and in the reaming land the city development would be entrusted to the private developers.
