Difference with Stalin only on policy, principles: Alagiri

Rules out possibility of starting new party, says he continues in DMK

T E Narasimhan Chennai
The expelled DMK leader M K Alagiri today claimed that the differences with his younger brother M K Stalin are based on policy and principles and nobody can 'create a rift in our family relationship.'

The former Union Minister also said that he doesn't have any intention to start a new party and claimed that he is in DMK.

Speaking at Theni today, Alagiri said "nobody can create a rift in the brotherly relationship with Stalin. My father did not say I am (Alagiri) not his son. Can he give in writing that I am not his son?”, said Alagiri.

It may be noted, on January 24, the DMK suspended Alagiri, 63, for opposing his brother Stalin, 61, who was tipped to be the political heir of Karunandhi, who earlier said that Alagiri predicted the death of his younger brother Stalin.

“Alargiri has been nurturing unknown hatred against Stalin for a long time. He came to my bedroom and complained about Stalin using unsavoury words and shouted in anger that Stalin would die in 3-4 months. No father can tolerate such words. But as I am the party leader I tolerated that,” the 89-year old Karunanidhi earlier narrated about morning the drama, which was held at his bed room on January 24 morning.

The Party also alleged that Alagiri has been creating confusions among the DMK members and it is one of the reasons for dismissing him from the Party, which also warned the party cadres to keep away from Alagiri or face disciplinary action.

Addressing his supporters today at Theni today, Alagiri said that “i did not receive any letter or any communication from my party that I am suspended. I only gets that through the Media. So I am continuing in DMK,” said, Alagiri who ruled out any possibility of launching new party or joining other parties.

It may be noted, recently Alagiri met MDMK leader Vaiko and BJP’s Sivaganga candidate H.Raja. Both the leaders had sought Alagiri’s support in the general elections.

Alagiri's comments assume significance as he had been attacking Stalin saying his brother had forced Karunanidhi to expel him. Besides, Alagiri has refused to accept anyone other than Karunanidhi as his leader in the party.

Even after his expulsion, Alagiri has questioned the selection of party candidates for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls hinting at Stalin's hand in the process and vowed to ensure the defeat of some.

At Cumbum today, Congress Theni candidate JM Aroon and MDMK nominee Alagu Sundaram met Alagiri and sought his support.
