Manohar Parrikar has resigned as the chief minister of Goa. He is likely to fly to Lucknow to file his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.
Parrikar is certain to be appointed a minister in the Union Cabinet, possibly minister of defence.
However, a war has broken out in Goa where along with allies, the Bharatiya Janata Party has 26 MLAs in a House of 40.

On hearing that he might not be the automatic choice to succeed Parrikar, his colleague and Deputy Chief Minister Francis D Souza has threatened to walk out of the government with 10 MLAs.
Efforts are on to pacify him. But a split in the Goa BJP cannot be ruled out, in which case, the government in the state will be lost.
