University of Cincinnati, one of the top public research universities in the United States is planning to invest US $I million in undergraduate scholarships for Indian students beginning the fall 2011 intake.

The most significant investment is the university's commitment to provide two full scholarships to undergraduate Indian students joining UC in fall 2011. This opportunity is applicable to two brilliant students who have overcome substantial disadvantages during their educational pursuits.

The university-wide UC Global Scholarship program also provides scholarships ranging from $1,000-$12,000 per year to the undergraduate students for International students. Students are advised that their completed applications should reach the university by Dec 1st for maximum scholarship consideration.

Jonathan Weller, Director of International Admissions said, "UC has always seen significant research contributions by Indian students. We look forward to more contributions & interest from Indian students with the current investment."

The university will partner with an NGO to help identify these two students.

Information about this, and other scholarships for Indian undergraduate students, will be available on www.uc.edu/india by October 1, 2010.

The university has nearly 2,000 international students out of which 650 are Indian. UC is active in India

The university has a long track record of working in India. There are currently 18 faculty led projects underway in India, ranging from lead paint prevention programs to teaching math and science to children in rural India.

UC also encourages its American students to explore India and its wonderful culture and people. The University Honors program will be leading some of the university's top students on its third consecutive service trip to India this winter.

This year's group of 12 students will assist a non-profit group called Design Impact who is working with the small village of Thiruchuli to develop fair-trade soap that can be sold internationally as well as a smokeless, clean-burning charcoal briquette to reduce the village's dependence on kerosene and LPG.

The students will be led by Dr. Raj Mehta, Director of UC Honors Scholar program and a professor in the College of Business who says, "Indians have contributed greatly to American universities and culture and service trips like this allow Americans to experience Indian culture firsthand - and to give something back to India."

"Admission to ACCEND programs is competitive and the workload can be challenging, but the pay off - a bachelor's degree, a master's, and a year of paid, professional work experience in as little as five years, is a truly unique and rewarding opportunity. It is a major reason international students choose UC," says Jon Weller, Director of International Admissions. There are several ACCEND options available to students, including a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology pared with a master's in Mechanical Engineering or an MBA, a bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering pared with a master's in Computer Science Engineering, or a bachelor's in Energy and Materials Engineering pared with an MBA.
