Twelve persons, including two women and three children were killed and 48 others were injured in two separate road accidents on National Highway 34 near Malda town since last night, police said today.
Eight persons died while 33 others injured in a bus-lorry head-on-collision on NH 34 at Kaluadighi this afternoon, while four persons, including three of a family, were killed and 15 injured in a vehicle-truck accident on the same highway in Malda late last night, they added.
In today's accident, five died on the spot while three succumbed to injuries at the Malda Medical College Hospital here, police said, adding, that eight among the 33 injured, admitted to the hospital, were critical, they said.

The incident happened this afternoon when a bus travelling from Malda to Chanchal collided head-on with a lorry on the NH 34 at Kaluadighi, police said.
Late last night, a Farakka-bound vehicle crashed into a lorry, killing two persons on the spot near Baishnabnagar police station.
Of the 17 injured, admitted to Malda Sadar hospital, two died this morning. Condition of five was serious.
The deceased include Meean Mondal (35), her daughter Juhi (14) and son Sabyasachi (12), police said.
