Two persons were arrested for
allegedly stealing cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from various households after employing themselves as domestic helps here, police said today.
The duo identified as Raju and Gopal fled to their native village in Midnapore district of West Bengal after allegedly stealing a total USD 1,500, Rs 22.5 lakh, 2,000 Singapore dollars and jewellery from two houses.

"Raju had employed himself as a household help in an apartment in Greater Kailash, through a person named Shambhu," Additional Commissioner of Police (South East) Ajay Chaudhari said.
According to him, Raju broke open the almirah while the house owner was away and stole Rs 22 lakh cash and fled.
Further investigations into the case revealed that he had employed himself in a different house earlier and fled with cash and jewellery.
Raju and Gopal reportedly distributed the cash among their friends and relatives in their native villages.
