Three senior members of Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR), Bengal unit, were today beaten up by some people while they were going to a local court for seeking bail after warrants were issued against them in connection with Bhangor power-substation protest in South 24 Parganas.

Sujato Bhadra, Ranajit Sur and Basudeb Mondal were severely beaten up by some people as they arrived at Baruipur Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate's Court to secure bail in the case, a district police officer said.

The three, all prominent human rights activists in the state, were taken to Baruipur Sub-divisional Hospital, he said, adding the court couldn't transact business due to the disruption and the bail plea of the trio would be now heard later.

The APDR condemned the attack and alleged that it was carried out by Trinamool Congress activists to "intimidate" the opposition, and vowed to intensify its protest.

The warrants had been issued against the three on charge of visiting Bhangor, on boil since anti-power substation agitation began late last month, on charge of inciting the local people.
