3 of family killed in road accident near Phagwara

Three members of a family, including a minor, were killed and as many injured in a road accident near Jamalpur village on the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway today.

The incident occurred 6 km from here when the victims' Maruti Alto car rammed into a stationary truck, allegedly parked incorrectly along the highway, Sub-Inspector (SI) Jasbir Singh, Incharge of Urban Estate Police Post said.

Harpreet Singh Happy (25) and his sister Ashu (22) died on the spot while her daughter Pari (2) succumbed to injuries in a Jalandhar hospital, police said.

The injured persons were Ashu's husband Rimple, her son Sidhu and sister Sahiba, the SI said.
 

He said all were first rushed to local civil hospital and then referred to a Jalandhar hospital.

All six were returning to Ludhiana after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, he said.

The SI said a case has been registered against the truck driver, who is absconding, while his vehicle has been impounded.
