38,000 tablets seized in Mizoram

As many as 38,000 tablets of

metamphetamine and ten kg of 'ganja' have been seized during separate raids in Mizoram since Saturday.

State Excise and Narcotics department PRO Peter Zohmingthanga told PTI that the first methamphetamine haul was made on Saturday when the Anti-Narcotic squad members seized 20,000 tablets.

The tablets were seized from 45-year-old Lalhnuni, a resident of Tahan in Myanmar and she was arrested, he said.

During interrogation she disclosed that another 18,000 methamphetamine tablets were stashed in another location which was seized yesterday, Zohmingthanga said.

The accused was allegedly trying to sell the drugs at Rs 66 lakh, he said.
 

The department officials also seized ten kilos of ganja (cannabis) at Zemawbawk near Aizawl on Sunday.

Lalchhandama (22) of south Mizoram's Saiha town was arrested for allegedly possessing the drugs.

Both the arrested persons were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, he said.
