4 killed as heavy rains lash Amravati

Four persons, including two women, were killed in separate incidents and hundreds of houses damaged in the district following heavy rains here in the past few days, police said today.

A woman, identified as Noorjehan Parveen Jalil Jehan, died in Paratwada, while Balu Narayan Rokade (58) succumbed to rain fury at Sategaon in Anjangaon Surji tehsil of the district when their houses collapsed on July 22, according to an official statement issued by district police said.

Besides, a couple, Haribhau Istari Shelokar (60) and his wife Manda (60), was killed in house collapse following heavy downpour in Chandur Railway town on Tuesday night.
 

Fifteen houses in different parts of the district got fully damaged due to the rains, while 2,264 houses suffered partial damage, police said.

A number of cattle were also swept away in flood water and several villages got inundated due to the rivers being in spate after heavy rains lashed the district yesterday and on Tuesday, police added.
