In its bid to stop illegal usage of subsidised LPG gas cylinders at commercial establishments, the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) booked five persons and seized 16 cylinders in the city, official sources said today.
A joint team of representatives of the LMD and Oil companies led by LMD Joint Controller Amar Singh conducted extensive raids at more than 30 commercial establishments at Nanak Nagar, Bahu Plaza & Apsra Road yesterday, an official spokesman said.
"Hotels, restaurants, sweetshops, halwais and roadside food vendors were checked... And 16 cylinders were seized from 13 establishments which were using them for commercial purposes," the spokesman said.
The seized cylinders have been handed over to respective Oil companies and they have been directed to check on all illegal connections and take strict actions against defaulters, he said, adding, that five persons were also booked in this connection.
