5 policemen booked for custodial death in Punjab

Pargat Singh was allegedly picked up by police yesterday. Later in evening, he was rushed to civil hospital after he became unconscious.

Singh was declared brought dead by doctors there.

According to the police, Singh was a habitual drinker and was arrested in Sekhwan for assaulting his neighbour.

A case of murder was registered against SHO Mehnga Singh and four constables involved in the incident, sources said.

After protests by family members and local leaders post mortem was re-conducted in the presence of Judicial Magistrate.

When contacted, IG (Border Range), Amritsar, Ram Singh, told that he had ordered registration of case against the SHO and other policemen involved in the incident.
